TOS Asset Management is a department supporting all of Hydro Aluminium Metals production sites, when it comes to asset management, maintenance and the digitalization in this area. The department consists of Subject Matter Experts in various areas, a team supporting the use and development of the maintenance process support tools, and a team of realibility engineers.

Participate in automation initiatives within the robotics and automation domain by identifying and implementing specific use cases that enhance operational efficiency and increase the degree of automation.

Introduction to the department
Group Information & Technology (GRIT) is Hydros group staff to govern the use of Information and Technology and Information Security within Hydro's units. GRIT is executing governance relating to Data, Enterprise Architecture, Information and Cyber Security in addition to having the ownership to Hydro's major IT platforms and security services. 
 
Areas of responsibilities
The summer interns will be part of the Information and Cyber Security team and work on cases relating to this field of expertise. Examples of cases are assessments of Information and Cyber Security maturity, improvements in security metrics and reporting, participate in ongoing projects within the Information Security function and CISO team as well as development of security awareness and training material.

Introduction to the department 
The Digital Finance team owns the processes and determines the tools used in the Global Business Services (GBS) Finance Hubs. They work through process experts in each area, either individually or via user forums. The team interfaces with the Finance Functions in the Business Areas and Group, as well as with the SAP Finance teams in Hydro. 

Digital Finance Team consists of the Global Process Owner (GPO) owning the design and roadmap to ensure Best Practice Processes (named as “Sm@rt concept”) for services delivered from GBS Finance teams. In addition, the team has a Digital & Analytics team, responsible to implement best practice tools decided in the Sm@rt GBS Finance concept, and drive process improvements through the tools and related processes in the Hubs.  

The team works closely with all Business Areas, several Group functions and IT teams, and have extensive peer networking sessions for best practice sharing.

Work together with the team in real projects on going in Digital Initiatives in GBS Finance in areas as Record to Report, Accounts Payable, Data Analytics among others. The main objective of such projects is to increase efficiency through automations and and use of AI.

Introduction to the department
Asset Intelligence is a Team in Hydro Energy’s department Operation and Development. The department operates 42 Hydro power plants and one wind park, collectively producing billions of time series measurements annually. The primary responsibility of Asset Intelligence is to make this data available for the organization, to provide data products and analytic support to enable fact-based decision making in our maintenance, operation and project processes. 

For the summer of 2026, we are seeking two summer interns with programming knowledge to assist in analyzing time series measurements. Interns will have the chance to work on data from real-life assets, gaining valuable data analysis experience and contributing to the team's mission. 
 
Areas of responsibilities
The summer interns will be assigned their own tasks, which they are responsible for executing with the team's support. The tasks will be a mix of Asset Intelligence' three core work processes: 

  • Assisting with the development of our anomaly detection algorithm. Testing new approaches to enhance our existing system for detecting abnormal measurement values from assets, supporting predictive maintenance. 
  • Dashboard development and operation. Develop and operate dashboards in Grafana using both live and historical data. Grafana dashboards are used daily by 25% of the department's employees. 
  • Ad-Hoc Analysis: Interns will conduct ad-hoc analysis on specific subjects, aiming to analyze time series data to provide factual support for decision-making processes.

TOS (Technology & Operational Support) Asset Management supports the Aluminium Metal Business area within maintenance, reliability, safety and increased robotization and automation. We work in the intersection between technology development and plant operations. For the robotics and automation field, we are primarily seeking ways to increase efficiency in factory processes, reduce risks for personnel and increase utilization of assets. 
 
Areas of responsibilities
The student will get tasks related to ongoing projects. For automation projects, there are normally challenges that require dedicated investigation and analysis that can't easily be performed within the existing organization, lending themselves ideally to a summer internship. These challenges are usually tightly linked to physical phenomena in the processes, meaning field work will be required. Electrolysis decarbonization is working on how to decarbonize our smelters by capturing, transporting and storing CO2 produced in the process. Particularly we are looking into where we should store the captured CO2 and how we can optimize the whole value chain.

TOS is a department in Hydro’s Aluminum Metal business area. We are responsible for and in charge of the development of new technology for aluminum production, implementation of technological advancements in all of Hydro’s aluminum smelters world-wide, and we provide operational support to enable improvements and emergency preparedness in all of Hydro’s aluminum plants.  

For Hydro to reach it`s sustainability targets, both new technology and operational improvements are needed.
